- Ned and Anna DeLoach - Ned and Anna specialize in capturing portraits of tropical
marine species around the world, and are also keen students of
marine life behavior. Ned is co-author with Paul Humann of
numerous marine life identification books, and Reef Fish
Behavior, an overview of what is currently known about the
natural history of fishes of the Caribbean. Anna, a
videographer, produced Sensational Seas – an anthology of
underwater filmmakers, and Reef Fish Identification, a

- Eric Riesch - Eric Riesch is photo editor and managing director of New
World Publications. For the past 15 years he has managed the
cataloging, retouching and photo placement of the marine life
identification books including Reef Fish Identification –
Tropical Pacific which includes more than 2,500 images. His
photographic work has appeared in several books and magazines.
- Wayne Levin - Wayne has spent a career
photographing the eerie and mysterious underwater world.
Working in black and white, he removes the surface illusions
about the ocean and the assumptions about underwater
photography. Levin earned his B.F.A. from the San Francisco
Art Institute and his M.F.A. from Pratt Institute in New York.
His monograph, Through a Liquid Mirror (Editions Limited,
1998), received the Hawaii Book Publishers Association's award
for Book of the Year. Levin received the Photographer's
Fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council (1989); the National
Endowment for the Arts (1984); and a Hawaii State Foundation
on Culture and the Arts, Individual Artists Fellowship (2006).
His photographs are widely exhibited and are in major public
collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the
Bishop Museum, Honolulu; and the Hawaii State Foundation on
Culture and the Arts.

Geographic, The Cousteau Society, and every North American

- Ed Robinson - Certified 1963 at age 15
1st camera: Nikonos II and Subsea Strobe
Moved to Maui, Hawaii and began diving as a vocation in 1971.
Became NAUI Instructor in 1972
Became serious about underwater photography in about 1974.
Learned UW photography by shooting and selling Kodachrome
slides of customers. Only entered a few photo contests. Won
1st place in non close-up color prints in 1979 Underwater
Photographic Society contest in Los Angeles and an honorable
mention in the 1982 Nikon International Photo Contest. His
reputation grew as he actively submitted his photographs to
magazine and book publishers and sold Cibachrome art prints to
patrons visiting Maui. Ed began traveling in 1981 and has
dived and photographed dozens of international destinations,
primarily in the South Pacific. Most unique destinations are
Palmyra Atoll and Midway Atoll. Among his achievements his
photography has been used on the cover of several National
Geographic Society publications and dozens of US and
international magazines. A Sunset Magazine portfolio of
his work stated he has “The eye of a scientist and the sole of
an artist.” Photographs are now used in hundreds of
publications and promotional literature throughout the world.
His work is currently being marketed by several stock agencies
in Hawaii and Internationally. Currently he is still shooting
his trusted Nikonos IIIs (He has 7 or 8 bodies) and his Nikon
film cameras in Tussey housings. He does intend to go digital
underwater soon.
- Andrew Sallmon - Andrew Sallmon is a freelance underwater and nature
photographer specializing in images of marine life and the
marine environment. His love of the oceans came at age 5
when his father first swam him through the surf of coastal
California. He took up Scuba diving in 1979 and became a
Scuba Instructor by the end of 1980. Picking up his first
underwater camera that same year he is now one of the
fortunate few that earn a living as an underwater
photographer. Along with his skill as an underwater
cameraman he is well known for his digital imaging and
underwater photography seminars and classes and is also
the sales representative for Sea and Sea U.S.A., Southern
California territory. His images are featured in
advertisements, catalogs, books, magazines, calendars and
posters and are also displayed in aquariums and natural

- Jack and Sue Drafahl
-Jack and Sue Drafahl are a husband and wife team of
professional undersea journalists, lecturers and multimedia
producers. Jack and Sue started their professional
photographic careers at Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa
Barbara, California. Sue worked as a professional photographer
and Jack became an instructor at Brooks and developed the
Audio Visual Department. They both received their diving
certification in the early '70s and are Platinum Pro 5000
divers (1996). Jack and Sue were awarded Divers of the Year
from Beneath the Sea in 1996. Sue is an inaugural member of
the Women Divers Hall of Fame (2000) and now serves as a
Trustee. Sharing their hard-earned knowledge about
underwater and digital photography, they have conducted
seminars worldwide on all aspects of photography, both surface
and underwater. Some of these seminars include various diving
conferences: Beneath The Sea, Our World Underwater, DEMA and
Scuba Show.
- Ernest H. Brooks II - Ambassador to
the Marine Environment, Photographer, Adventurer, Diver and
Educator Ernest H. Brooks II was born to be a photographer. As
the son of Ernest H. Brooks, founder of the internationally
renowned Brooks Institute of Photography, Mr. Brooks was
destined to follow in his father's footsteps for part of his
life's journey before forging his own path. He graduated from
Brooks Institute, served on the school's executive staff and
in 1971 assumed the office of the president, a position he
held until 2000 when the institute was sold to Career
Education Corporation, CEC. Throughout his long tenure as the
head of Brooks Institute, he carried out the duties that come
with that corporate territory including keynote speaking at
international conventions, working with national and
international organizations and companies to enhance the
industry, and encouraging photographic education and promoting
photography as a universal language. Along the way, while
fulfilling the responsibilities of his office, his
achievements earned him numerous accolades and awards.

- Mike Mesgleski
has been teaching
Underwater Photography since 1987, helping countless students create thousands
of beautiful images of our underwater world. Among his awards, Mike is an
inaugural year recipient of the prestigious SSI Platinum Pro certification.
- Mike Haber, an equally qualified instructor, is a professional
photographer both topside and underwater. Mike's studio subjects and nature
images reflect the wide range of his photographic skill and creativity. Mike
is also proud to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Marine life
Preservation Society.
For eighteen years, Mike & Mike were associated with Jim Church, a pioneer of
modern underwater photography. They collaborated with Jim on three of his
books and have team-taught underwater photography with him in both the
Caribbean and the Pacific. Jim selected them to continue his style of U/W
photography instruction on board the live-aboard dive vessels of the Aggressor
Fleet. Together, Mike & Mike operate the Jim Church School of Underwater
Photography.
Mike & Mike have had articles and photographs published in magazines such as
Skin Diver, Ocean Realm, Undercurrents and Scuba Times. Their book and video
ER - Emergency Repair for the Nikonos V Camera has been designated an
"essential part of any underwater photographer's travel kit" by famed
underwater photographer Stephen Frink.
- Stephen Frink is the world's most frequently published underwater
photographer with editorial work appearing in many consumer dive journals such
as RODALE'S SCUBA DIVING for whom he writes a regular column on underwater
photo trends and techniques. His work has also been published in a wide
variety of general interest publications such as NATURAL HISTORY, GLAMOUR,
TIME, NEWSWEEK, ISLANDS, TRAVEL AND LEISURE, ESQUIRE, FORTUNE, MONEY, as well
as numerous NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC publications. Frink has authored a textbook
for Nikon entitle THE NIKONOS SYSTEM, and teaches an annual session of the
Stephen Frink School of Underwater Photography.

- Scott Johnson - Scott is a freelance photojournalist
who specializes in travel adventure and wildlife projects. His work has
appeared in numerous publications (STUFF magazine, Caribbean Travel & Life,
Sport Diver, Skin Diver, Alert Diver, Asian Geographic, Ocean Realm, Marine
Conservation and others), calendars, web sites and advertisements. Driven to
explore the world’s oceans, untamed land habitats and dynamic cultures, his
adventures have taken him around the globe. Scott utilizes photography and
writing to creatively share his experiences with others and to build a very
personal legacy for his children.
